Kyrgyz language
Kyrgyz is the mother tongue of almost 4 million people. It belongs to the Turkic group. It is recognized as an official language in Kyrgyzstan and is also used in Uzbekistan, China, Kazakhstan, and some regions of Russia. The written language until the first third of the last century was based on the Arabic alphabet. Settlers living in China still use this variant. There are also nearly 12 years of Latin in the history of the language. Nowadays the written language is based on the Cyrillic alphabet. At the same time, many scholars believe that it would be worth returning to the Latin alphabet, as it is better suited to reflect all the peculiarities of the Kyrgyz language.
Distinguishing features
The vocabulary of the Kyrgyz language perfectly conveys concepts related to cattle breeding, especially horse breeding. There are more than 10 different terms for these animals in different age groups only.
The epic Manas is of great importance for the formation of national consciousness and the formation of the Kyrgyz language. Among oral languages, it is the longest in the world, as it includes 200,000 verses.
The Kyrgyz language lacks the "f" sound. This has led to certain mishaps in the past. For example, when the USSR decided to rename one of the capital's streets after the revolutionary Frunze, it ended up as "Prunze".
The period of active development of the Kyrgyz language is still under intense debate. Most researchers believe that its roots go back to the 14th and 15th centuries, to the old Uzbek language. It was the language used by Mongol rulers in Central Asia at that time. Numerous written sources remain as evidence and are still being investigated. Some philologists, however, believe that the formation of the Kyrgyz language as a fully independent language has not yet ended: the process continues. According to researchers, it needs to purify itself from Russian influence to gain full independence.
