In June 1945, after the victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War, the Group of Soviet Occupation Forces in Germany, abbreviated GSOFG, was formed. Later, 4 years later, the GDR was formed, and the GSOFG removed the word "occupation", thereby transforming into the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (GSFG). The GDR lasted until 1990. On September 12, 1990, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the GDR, the USSR, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States signed the " Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany ".
