Apostille Services
Apostille is a simplified procedure of document legalization. Apostille is universal i.e. it’s valid in the Hague Convention countries. “Apostille” stamp doesn’t expire unless the documents expiration date is limited (certificates of criminal record, certificates from Passport Office, Registry Office, and other public services).
In Russia, as in other countries, there are few institutions authorized to attach apostille. The main document workflow falls on the Main Directorate for the Ministry of Justice where apostille is attached to any notarized documents. It’s important to note that the apostille service has a territorial affiliation. For example, a notarized copy of the certificate of birth authenticated by a Nizhny Novgorod notary is apostilled only in Nizhny Novgorod.
Apostille can be attached to the original document, its notarized copy or translation. It’s important to specify requirements for formalization at the place of submission. For example, it’s often enough to place an apostille on a notarized copy of diplomas for entering university in the USA, France, or the UK. However, there are a lot of institutions of the indicated countries that demand originals marked with apostilles. Apostille for court decisions in Germany is mostly attached to originals. Documents produced by Registry Office for Italy are also legalized in the same way. Belgium and the Netherlands often require double apostille: on the original and the document translation. But there are no fixed formalization standards for all the country’s institutions, the correct formalization is the one which meets the requirements of the institution where documents are addressed.
We recommend you always specify details at the place of submission to avoid inaccuracies and mistakes in formalization. As a rule, there are always possibilities to check information on the organization website where you apply to or to call and consult with a specialist. It is better to verify a formalization procedure in advance than spend time and money on editing afterward.
