If you are planning to go to the Czech Republic to study, work or for a long stay (medical treatment, real estate acquisition, marriage), you need to prepare your documents to be accepted in the Czech institutions. In 1997 the «PROTOCOL BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC ON THE INVENTORY OF THE LEGAL AND CONTRACTUAL FRAMEWORK AND OPERATION OF BILATERAL TREATIES AND AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC» was signed. According to the protocol, documents «which in the territory of one Contracting Party are made and certified by an institution of justice or other authority or specially authorized person within their competence and in the prescribed form and which bear the official seal, are accepted in the territory of the other Contracting Party without any other certification».
Thus, Russian documents for the Czech Republic do not need to be apostilled, and Czech documents for Russia do not need to be apostilled either. But, unfortunately, there are cases when despite the existence of the agreement, the receiving party requires an apostille. We have had orders in our practice where we have apostilled Russian diplomas for Czech universities. That is why it is important to specify requirements at the place of application.
How to formalize documents for the Czech Republic if an apostille is not needed?
Russian documents are translated into Czech and notarized at the Czech Consulate in Moscow. Please note that the notarization of translations by a Russian notary is not suitable for the Czech Republic. Documents may be translated into Czech by any certified translator and translations shall be certified by a Czech notary at the Consulate. You can submit the documents to the Czech Embassy by yourself or use our services.

In this case, there is no need to be certified by the Czech consulate and the translation certified by a Czech sworn translator does not require any additional procedures, is accepted by the Czech Embassy without any check and is in full force and effect in the Czech Republic.
The cost of our services of translation by a Czech court interpreter is 65 euros for 1 standard document. Translation and certification by a Czech sworn translator are much faster than by an ordinary translator if the translation is certified by the consulate.
Note that the above options are absolutely equivalent, you can use either method. When the consulate is busy, it takes a long time to have the documents notarized, and it is difficult to get to a notary.
